Ruxton's History

Ruxton Country School has had a long and distinguished history. Since its beginnings in 1913 as The Blue Bird School, the educational philosophy of the school has remained constant.  There has always been a commitment to small class size, nurturing and caring teachers, and a challenging curriculum.  In 1978, the School was renamed Ruxton Country School.  In 1994, Ruxton Country School moved from its original site in Ruxton to a new campus in Owings Mills.  Growth has continued with the addition of the Student Activity Center in 2000, which houses our gymnasium, auditorium, cafeteria, administrative offices and additional classrooms.  Today, the school offers a coeducational liberal arts program to students from Kindergarten through Eighth Grade.
